Every year our vehicles get an MOT – to make sure everything is working correctly and ensure they will be roadworthy for the next 12 months.

Our bodies work hard every single day and there are many things that can go wrong if problems are left unchecked. Some health problems can also progress without you knowing they are there, and if discovered too late, treatment may be harder, or even ineffective.

The NHS is no longer offering health checks which means that many opportunities to spot conditions and treat them early are being missed. A full body MOT health check not only checks all aspects of your health but allows you time with a medical professional who can give you answers to any niggling questions you may have.

It also monitors improvements if you have taken on a healthier lifestyle and are looking to see the results that lifestyle is bringing.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) identifies eight key risk factors to health, all of which can be addressed in a health check:

  • Smoking
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Obesity
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood glucose
  • Poor diet
  • Lack of exercise

My Occ Health offer a range of health checks which provide a comprehensive assessment of your health including all of these areas and more.

Our health checks can be delivered on-site at your company premises, anywhere in the UK, and in groups of 10 or more. Individual health checks can be booked at our clinics in Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton.

Benefits of Workplace Health Checks

  • Increased Retention- workers are more likely to want to stay with the company that offers employee health checks, so there will be less staff turnaround and more consistency across your business and quality of work.
  • Increased productivity- health checks will mean any illnesses that may occur will be caught early and treated so employees won’t need to take as much time off as they would have done if the condition had developed. Less absences and illness in staff will lead to more productivity.
  • Employee feels valued- workers will feel like their employers care about their health and wellbeing which also helps to boost morale and a positive atmosphere in the workplace.
  • Detects underlying conditions which are asymptomatic- conditions may be identified that employees would not have known they had if it wasn’t for a workplace health check.
  • Identify and manage health conditions before they become difficult to treat- catching health conditions early will not only avoid absences at work but make a big difference in treatment for the employee and avoid complications further down the line.
  • Gives global overview of workplace health and allows you to provide targeted assistance- this could help to improve your overall workplace culture and promote a healthier lifestyle.
  • Everyone could benefit – Managers, Directors, vocational drivers, unskilled workers, apprentices- there is no bias or anyone getting treated differently, health checks are fair and open to all employees.

Advanced Health Check

The My Occ Health Advanced health check is a 20 minute nurse led assessment and our entry level health screening, suitable for employees of all levels.

This health screening includes an assessment of your blood pressure, cardiovascular risk, BMI and breathing airflow. A check for diabetes and raised cholesterol is also undertaken, with the results being available within minutes of the test. The assessment also encompasses a lifestyle and mental health assessment.

More information on each section of the health check is available below:

  • Pre health check questionnaires: Lifestyle and mental health assessments are completed prior to your health check which gives our clinician an insight into your physical and mental health.
  • Blood Glucose and Cholesterol levels: A skin prick test will pinpoint your exact blood sugar levels and identify risk of elevated blood glucose which can be problematic if at a high level for a long period of time. In addition we check your cholesterol, helping to spot the early signs of heart disease or diabetes, this is crucially important due to high cholesterol itself not having symptoms.
  • BMI: Our nurse will check your body mass index which indicates whether your weight is healthy and if you have excess waist fat. An unhealthy BMI can increase risk of type 2 diabetes and some cancers.
  • Blood pressure: A straightforward test checks your blood pressure levels and highlights hypertension (elevated blood pressure) which can put a strain on your arteries and organs, leading to an increased risk of heart attacks/strokes.
  • Breathing airflow: The peak flow check measures the speed of your breathing, your score can indicate narrow airways and potential lung problems such as asthma.
  • Cardiovascular Risk Assessment: As important as any clinical test, the assessment establishes risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking status, family history, age and gender. The assessment not only calculates risk of cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years, but throughout your whole life time.
  • Pulse rate: Using an oximeter our nurse will check your blood oxygen saturation level, helping to detect any abnormal pulse readings.
  • Urinalysis: A comprehensive urine sample screening detecting a range of elements such as blood, specific gravity and protein levels.

A comprehensive and personalised health report is formulated following the assessment and given to you on the day of your assessment.
